Does the biogas plant smell? Is it noisy? How does the plant produce electricity and heat? Find answer to some frequently asked questions here.
Does a biogas plant smell?
The natural process of digesting organic waste often causes odor, but because this happens in a closed system and with a biofilter it takes 90-99% of the odor. In addition, the biogas plant is more than 1.5 km away from the nearest populated area and therefore the smell should not bother any families in the neighbourhood. When the biogas production is going to start, it is likely that odors may occur for a short period of time, caused by the new biofilters. Normally is takes about 2-3 months before the biofilters work optimally and the odor becomes less.
Is the biogas plant noisy?
The biogas engine is located in a sound-absorbing area.
How do we get power from the biogas plant?
The power produced by the biogas plant is transferred to SEV, which passes it on to the households.
How do we get heat from the biogas plant?
The heat produced by the biogas plant is transferred to the district heating station, which passes it on to the households.
How do we revice organic materials to the biogas plant?
The organic materials from agriculture and salmon breeding are transported to the plant by a specialmade truck made for the purpose.
How is the liquid fertilizer stored?
The liquid fertillizer is transported to farmers by truck and is stored in big tanks.
Is it possible to produce biogas out of other waste materials?
Technically it is possible to produce biogas out of almost all organic materials. However, we are only allowed to process cow manure, excrement and salmon silage.
How big is the capacity at the biogas plant?
The biogas engine is 1,500 kW. We have a production capacity of about 100,000 tons annually.
